To all who may recall me slouching at my desk in the back of our English class, I won't be attending the 50th. Rather, my wife, Loretta (Kearny HS '58, and my bride since 1-1-59) and I will be vacationing at Depoe Bay on the Oregon Coast.

As I reflect on events and individuals from that era, I remember: Ted Higley and having viewed my first TV at his home with an episode of the Lone Ranger on a set the size of a pack of smokes. While speaking of smoking, learning to smoke with Roger Luther. A date with Vonnie and being so shy that I was afraid to get near her. Flirting with Dolores from across the room in Mr. Seely's classroom. Bob Lambert with his camera always at the ready; The page-long message from Nancy. in my '57 Tioga yearbook. Norman Roberts' untimely passing just a few weeks after graduation, and an illness that kept me from being with him on that fateful night in Georgia. Winning the design competition for our HS graduation program. Barbara Harris and Diane Hernandez working me for "freebie" ice creams when I worked after school at Dee's Frosty Freeze at the Clairemont Quad. Trying to beat Bob Zamba in a foot race. It goes on and on.

We made it in a time that I recall as being fun. There was sex, drugs, and rock and roll (not all bad), but when compared to what our kids endured in the face of heightened drug abuse, etc., our times were good! No, Great!

Following my career with the San Diego Police Department, I have retired more times than I care to count, but the "excitement of the chase" keeps me going back for more. I had a Real Estate business in Rancho Bernardo; For several years was a park ranger with the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department; Worked with the Coos County, OR Planning and Zoning Department; And, am currently in partnership with my two sons, Dave and Paul, in a Real Estate business in Arizona. Oh, yes. One morning a week I am the "cart boy" at a local golf course. Does this help make me a good golfer? No. But the year-round comp golf is a nice benefit when I'm not too busy to take advantage of it.

My wish for you all is good health, happiness, and have a great time at the 50th reunion.
